United's Computer Check-in System Fails To Leap On Leap Day

Los Angeles (CA) - Leap day (February 29) happens once every four years, but it seems that there cannot be a single leap day without mainstream media reporting about computer-related problems associated with the date. This time around, so called "Easy Check-in" kiosks at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were crashing as the software did not allow passengers to check-in for the flight.

A spokesperson for United Airlines claimed that the "system was fixed at 10:55AM CDT and was operating normally", but reports from the airport spoke differently. Claims of complete chaos and massive load on under-staffed agent posts were reported.

In 2004, another national leap day issue sprung up when news reported of Scientific Atlanta set-top boxes going haywire, resulting in complete data loss.
