I'm a beginner with installing OS's and I've just upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 8 pro. It booted up fine and then after about 5 minutes of browsing for drivers to install; it freezes and I can't move the mouse, type or even open task manager. Then I rebooted it and it happened again, this happened 3 more times and I did the same thing: restarted it and type in my username and password and start browsing and then it just freezes again and again. Please can someone help me with this problem! My pc specifications: CPU: AMD fx4100 3.6ghz quad core, 8gb RAM, AMD radeon HD 7850 2gddr5, 500gb HDD, 120gb HDD and windows 8 pro.

Can you check if your numlock is on?

Google your motherboard model and download it's drivers USING A STABLE PC.

Burn those drivers (for Windows 8 x86/x64 to a CD-R or DVD-R.

Install the motherboard chipset drivers first, then reboot.

After that I think you'll be OK.

AMD motherboard chipsets are notorious for problems with 'newer' Operating Systems. I only recommend them to the more hardcore hardware enthusiasts.

It's not on.

I had the same problem. Before entering your password make sure to have your numlock turned on, then everything will be alright. That's a hassle, I know so what I did was reformat my pc again. Also what Scott told you download your drivers just to add after you installing all your drivers MAKE SURE to update your Win 8. Yes, a paint in the arse but keep those updates coming and install them ASAP.

It should work fine now. :p
