here's a little story and I could use your opinion
first specs:
Mobo: asrock z77 extreme4
CPU: i5 3570k OC 4.5 (stable)
8GB ram
HD 7970
HDD: Seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166 Win 7
SSD: Corsair Force GT 120 Gb Win 8 + Data
I had a win 7 64 installed on the SSD and I recently installed Win 8 on the Seagate with no problems... I removed the SSD and installed win 8 on an empty space (100Gb) I left on the 3TB HDD.
So each hdd had it's own bootable partition and if I wanted to boot in Win 8 I selected it during boot up by hitting the F11 key during POST and selecting Windows Manager, or something like that.
Everything worked swell until today. I booted up Win 8, seemed to work just fine. I tried starting Chrome, both from the Start screen and taskbar, but nothing would happen, it wouldn't even show up in task manager for a split second. I then opened the folder where Chrome was installed and double clicked it: the error: "THis is not a valid win 32/64 application" Showed up. Seeing this, I proceeded to uninstall Chrome intending to reinstall the uninstallation was instant, as in, when I clicked "uninstall" the Dialog box showed up "uninstall successful" As I was Binging "Chrome"(in IE) to find it and reinstall another Dialog box showed up saying something like "Windows has some errors and needs to reboot to repair them". I clicked reboot
It remained in a reboot loop, a couple of seconds after the windows logo, BSOD with 0x00000024 showed up (I had to disable auto reboot to see it)
Mesmerized I proceed to boot into windows 7, with the same result, whether in safe mode or anything else.
Luckely I have a second computer so I plugged the SSD with win 7 in that one to check it for errors and the such. The autorun dialog box showed up for the recovery partition but a "This drive is not formated" showed up for the main partition. When checked in Disk Management, it showed up as RAW. Well, no wories, all my data, including all my documents and all that is on the HDD data partition. I plugged in the HDD with Win 8, long story short, the exact same thing: the recovery partition and another one Windows created for GPT type HDDs showed up fine, but the 100GB Windows 8 Partition AND the 2.6TB partition showed up as RAW. Well I'm fucked.
After much googleing I downloaded disktest for windows and proceded to recover the SSD, after reboot it was asking for a chkdsk, so I let it. Then it kept Showing "Replacing invalid security id with default security id for file xxx" for about an hour.. after that the partition was visible again, but when I tried to boot from it the system would get stuck after the Windows Boot logo on a black screen with the mouse pointer on it, I was able to move the mouse.
Well that was a long shot but at least I know I can recover the files. So I tried to recover the RAW partitions nothing. I then tried again but only keeping the 2.6 TB partition. This worked, after restart I let it do the chkdsk and the same "Replacing invalid security id with default security id for file xxx" showed up for hours. after that all the folders had the little lock next to their icon, so that is what chkdsk was doing, reseting the permisions. I was able to retake ownership and the drive seems fine.
I did a secure erase on the SSD and reinstalled windows 7, I tested the drives with HD tune and they seem fine.
And that's the story and it took the better half of my sunday to recover from it. Now I know why they say you should try beta software on a system that you don't care about.

R Win 8 made all my partitions RAW
1 question though: Should I trust that my HDDs are healthy? Should I completely erase the 3 TB HDD and re-partition it just to be sure?
