I am stuck between the AMD FX-8350 CPU (8x 4.00GHz/8MB L2 Cache) or Intel® Core™ i5-3570K Pro as far as processors go and can't decide which one would suit better. I am looking to build a gaming pc in which i can try to play mostly on max settings. Games like Battlefield 3, Bioshock Infinite, FarCry 3, basically big games like that. If the system I am trying to build can't do max settings at good FPS then I am willing to play on ultra. I want to marry one of those processors with the AMD Radeon HD 7970 - 3GB or a NVIDIA graphics card obviously. However I don't really know what would be the best competition to the 7970. I am looking to only spend around or under 1400$.

And what about for a graphics card? is the 7970 good or is there something else I should be looking into? The 7970 is a good card, if you want an amd gpu, there's the 670 gtx from nvidia, if you want a nvidia cpu, but the 7970 has a slightly better performance and offers two free games(crysis 3 and bioshock infinite).
I would go with the i5-3570k as the cpu for it.

Build your own, than you can take some real pride in it once it is done and sitting under your desk
Go 3570k, 7970 for sure
