Mouse will not load on startup

The driver for my USB-wireless (not Bluetooth) 'Daffodil' mouse does not work when I start my desktop computer. The cursor does not show but the mouse has a light on it. Under device manager it has a '!' next to it. After uninstalling the device, then searching for new devices, the mouse will always works. Restarting the mouse, updating the driver and putting the USB receiver back in do nothing.

Another problem, though probably hardware related, is that the mouse sometimes registers double-clicks when I only click once.

Any suggestions on how I can fix these?

1. It's unclear if it's the Mouse itself or the driver, so are you having any USB related issues?
2. Have you downloaded the mouse driver or reinstalled it from those available in the System?
3. have you tried with the Intellimouse driver? (it should work with USB or PS/2 mouse).
4. Have you tried the mouse on all USB ports?
5. Have you tried the mouse with a PS/2 port USB adapter? (It would help determine if the problem is the mouse itself)
6. Try SFC /Scannow in the run command or a Command Prompt windows and insert the Windows installation disk... if corrupt system files are the cause it should reinstall them fresh from the Windows disk.

1. No USB issues, though one of my webcams is also not installing (it's a cheap one with no available drivers online)
2. Could not find any other mouse drivers.
3. Tried Intellimouse and Microsoft Mouse softwares, but neither can detect a "Microsoft device".
4.I tried changing USB ports, but it only caused the same issue as at startup (i.e. the cursor won't show and there's a driver error)
5.Nope, but I'll check
6.No installation disk

1. Inconclusive
2. OK, meant to say drivers with a PS/2 adapter.. USB mice only need the default USB driver.
3. Same as 2.
4. Inconclusive. You need to try option 5
5. You'll need to test the mouse with a PS/2 adapter or try it on another computer to know if it works correctly and it is not the issue.
6. You may want to download a RC Windows 8 ISO from an official download site.. or borrow a friends or family member/relative so you can try and repair possible missing or corrupt system files. There's a chance an RC version may not work on your system but that's one possible solution.

The bolded text option is the best I can think of so you can use the mouse as PS/2 while you find the solution for USB use, or just to determine which is the issue, mouse or USB ports.

CORRECTION: I had completely missed "wireless" and "bluetooth".. so the PS/2 adapter thing will probably not work, so better scrapp all I've said up to this point... you may want to start another thread for better chances of finding help. I'm honestly too green when it comes to bluetooth but what I do know is you have to enable bluetooth in Windows so if your mouse has worked before restoring the system may help.. if it's a new installation, you may have to yet start downloading windows updates before the driver can be correctly installed.

Try this Microsoft Fix-it for Windows Vista... couldn't find one for Windows 8 but it may apply as well for W8. Or see if doing it manually helps..

I think its a defective mouse personally.
make sure your using the mouse on a non reflective surface.
take a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and try cleaning the lense.
check to make sure you have good batteries in the wireless mouse.
if the usb ports are working and you correctly installed the right driver power off the computer or restart it after driver instillation so every thing is loaded up again correctly.
all these are not in any specific order .. but if none of those assist you then i would send it back to the retailer you purchased it from and try either a like model or a different brand all togeather.

if you dont mind what was is the model of the mouse?

It's the driver w/o doubt... if you install it and it uninstalls the next time you logon and it has a yellow exclamation sign, that can mean the driver may be corrupted or the system is having trouble saving changes, even an infection is possible. What you first need to do is replace the driver and second scan the system for possible infection with an antimalware and an antivirus.. if nothing turns out, scan with an online antivirus. Other than that you need to insert the installation disk and from start \ Run or the command prompt, type: SFC /SCANNOW this will reinstall missing or corrupted system files and drivers. No DVD? see if a friend with the same Edition can make you a copy from their DVD or even a ISO file... the product key is not in the DVD so it shouldn't be a problem... there's also the possibility to retrieve a copy of the driver from the Recovery Partittion.
