Windows 8 ports blocked

hi all,
i moved to windows 8 about a month or so ago, now i'm having problems...

there are a few games that i play and i cannot access the multiplayer side of the game due to time outs, this one game being heroes of might and magic 6. i contacted the support team at ubisoft/ uplay and narrowed it down to the ports.

i checked if the ports are open on several websites and they all say these ports are closed?

So i looked into this problem and seems that windows 8 opens and closes ports as the o/s needs them but it don't seem to be doing that. i entered the port information in to the inbound rules as a new rule and still it states they are closed.

can anyone help.

many thanks

administrative tools, system, change wiredautoconfig to auto, in your case you might want to enable rather then auto

EDIT also in the network and sharing center, change adapter setting, in the menu bar click, advanced settings, menu, providing orders, move up your adapter to first

control panel>Network and Internet>Network Connections>Menu bar if no bar is visable press ALT, advanced, advanced settings

Is UPnP enabled on the router?

Even though there may not be a configurable firewall on the router it will be operating in NAT mode, and any NAT router worth it's salt will drop unsolicited connections from the internet.

gomerpile... thanks for the help... the only option for wiredautoconfig is on the system configuration and that's a simple tick and un-tick but tried both and didn't help. i also moved my network adapter to first position and still did not fix the issue, but thanks for trying.

Digital Alchemy... UPnp was enabled and i disabled this service earlier and tried to see if their was any change but still the same so re enabled it for the moment..

thank you all. your help is appreciated

OK two more things, try to install multi cast protocols in adapter settings, 2 install in windows components small network management protocol snmp

try netstat -s

see what is happening to your ports

Oh I feel for you, the ironically named Virgin Superhub is the biggest POS I've ever had the misfortune of having to deal with (Netgear - nuff said).

After the last update - which did very similar things to XBOX Live, I promptly set the Superhub to modem only operation and put in a Cisco router, worked flawlessly since.

OK, installed ssdp as i was still getting the problem once installed i restarted my system turned off firewall and anti-virus tested the game and still nothing. every game that's available i get a connection time out.

just got my friend to try the games as he lives down the road to me but he is on windows 7 and he could connect apart from 1.

thanks for everything but not sure where to go from here... ubisoft support seems to be non-existent and no help on their forums. :-c

i ran the game in windowed mode while watching the upnp service in task manager and it keeps on running no errors from upnp...
