Thought i would start a new thread to discuss my thoughts and direction im heading. I am looking to play games like crysis 3 and farcry 3 on max settings.

so far ive decided on:
-I5-3570k : will be overclocking to around 4.5 hopefully
-MSI z77 Mpower
-2x4gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz ram
-MSI r7870 oc 2gb
-Hyper 212 evo
-XFX 550

Im still looking at the smaller details but this is a start. Any suggestions would be appreciated such as what to improve on or change. Is the motherboard necesaary or would a lesser one do just as good? Im really not sure what is over or underkill.

My target is around that level of components, so wouldnt want to go much more hardcore than that ;P so without changing the overall price by too much (unless its downward while keeping similar performance haha), im just looking for suggestions of what to tweak or which things might work together. Otherwise if they all seem compatible and a solid setup i will probably just head in that direction. Im wondering things like are any of the components overkill for playing games and whether or not msi products are advisable etc.

You could downgrade to an AsRock Z77 Extreme4, which is still a very solid motherboard for overclocking. Try and get a 7870 XT, which is essentially a 79xx series PCB with a few cores locked, and has extremely good performance for its price. I would also advise on getting an SSD (Samsung 830/840 Pro, OCZ Vector/Vertex 4, Crucial M4) if possible.

This is a good suggestion. Even if the SSD is just a 60GB and you run SRT so you don't have to manage data, your boot and launch times of all your common stuff will be just like you had an SSD, and you just have to 'set it and forget it' since it runs transparently to the user.
