Does this videocard upgrade justify the cost?

Hi everyone, I currently own a EVGA GTX 670 FTW, not overclocked or anything and I was considering an upgrade to the GTX 680 line, since nvidia is having a sale.
My rig is:

i7-3770k not overclocked but with dual config fans
16gb ddr3 1600mhz ram
EVGA GTX 670 FTW
crucial 256gb ssd
Corsair 800 watt power supply
asrock z77 extreme 4m mobo
tons of fans and plenty of room

I play games like planetside and sometimes find the bottleneck to be my gpu, my question to the community is, how much of an improvement would a GTX 680 be over a 670? I also plan Minecraft (heavily modded) total war games (would like good results on rome 2)

With the promotion I plan on buying one of the cards for about $80-100 less than they cost. These are the cards I have in mind:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZUDOKG/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p147_d0_i3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0Y2NM4BMBZ7A67BZAW8F&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1389517282&pf_rd_i=507846

and

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VBFFWO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

so assuming the card is $500 - $80 in rebates (I plan on keeping the planetside 2 credit and selling the other 2 for $40 each)

and then 420 - 350 = $70. Is this a justifiable upgrade? I'd appreciate any help as I am somewhat of a videocard noob, thanks!

Even if you overclock it's not likely to help much... As we said, if the game is poorly coded there's not much you can do... Just pray for the developer to release patches.

Sounds like a lot of trouble for not much (maybe a 5% to 10% performance upgrade). The 670 is performing very close to the 680 and the games you're currently playing aren't really demanding so you're not likely to see any difference. I don't know why you say you find a bottleneck in your GPU, it shouldn't happen with the games you're playing and a 670. Are you sure the bottleneck is the GPU? Might be a system or Windows problem or something else taking resources if you experience any bottleneck. As I said, your plan sounds like a lot of trouble for not much. Just overclock your current 670 and it could even surpass the 680.

OK I didn't know that Planetside was poorly optimized, because I've looked at the requirements and he easily surpasses them (even the optimal and recommended, not just the minimum). But if the game is poorly coded as you said, there's not much he can do about it. He's likely to experience the same problems with the 680. He can only pray for the developer to release patches for the game or maybe nvidia to release a driver upgrade that would improve things. But the problem is not on the hardware side of things then...

Does the 680 overclock better than the 670? also is there any overclocking software you'd reccomend?

Also, I get very good fps (mostly 60) but sometimes it drops to high 30s to 40s when there are a ton of players playing, however this MIGHT be the cpu (planetside says that's the bottleneck). The new videocard wouldn't hurt though right?

No. Save your money. Some games are poor ports or badly coded. Secondly, don't "bump" your own threads. It's frowned upon here.

If you can afford to upgrade from a GTX670 to a GTX680, why not just grab a second 670 for SLI? Seeing that you are planning on selling your 670, maybe you can't afford to do it, but if you can it would be well worth it. I am still on dual GTX470s and haven't found a reason to upgrade from that.

As others have pointed out, Planetside 2 has some optimization issues, but I think that a little brute force might solve it for you.
