Hi
I need some help optimizing my online gaming speed. Normaly i see ping 100- 70 on sky Broadband. My Pc is 5 feet away from router and its a pcie N card with a mini antena. My router is the usual sky I get one mega byte/sec download speed and 512MB upload MAX. Every day sometimes the quality drops connection gets slow and so is my download or ping goes to 120 or more. Is there anything I can do to optimize it more? Preferably less ping? The answer that helps me the most will be selected. ;)Thanks

Most likely it's not an issue with your connection to the wireless, it's an issue with your internet connection.

Who else in your home is using the internet and are they downloading?
Is it secure (SSID has a password and is WPA/WPA2)?
Does this correspond to heavy internet usage times?

Finally, have you tried plugging directly into the Wrouter when your ping climbs above 120 ms?

No i havent hard wired as im not sure which cable to get and from where to .
Beside i see a 5 bars in wifin im using win 7
security type wpa-2

I normaly get a GALAXY S II hookedup after 6pm some days to watch youtube by my wife :na: Apart from that no connection. So you can say most of the time im the only user .

This happens often in busy times 7pm-11pm

But even in weekdays sometimes see very high ping and choppy gaming speed while see some other with 20 40 ping and (usualy before i see them im dead !)

Isnt there anyway I can lower PING ???

Grab a 3M or 5m cat6 Ethernet cable. Most likely your router will have an Ethernet port. This will let you see whether it is the wifi or the broadband connection causing the ping.

With the computer being so close, it is most likely the connection, but best to test Ethernet first.

I bet you will not be able to fix it. When it happens at the times of day you mention is it likely your ISP has oversold the bandwidth they have. All your neighbors and you are competing for the bandwidth. Very little you can do to fix this unless you have options to get internet via another physical medium.

Maybe you get lucky and it is your wireless and a neighbor is turning their wireless on during those times and interfering....highly unlikely though. As others have stated you need to try a cable
