I recently acquired a raspberry pi and have an old laptop that the hard drive and the power port have died on me. What I was hoping to find out is to use the raspberry pi as a replacement using the existing keyboard mouse and monitor from the old laptop and connect it to the pi. The issue I have run across is how feasible is it to convert a ribbon keyboard and mouse into a USB plug. The monitor into HMDI. Anyone have any ideas?

I understand that buying a cheep monitor would be the easiest thing to do however I have some free time on my hands and would prefer to do things the hard way. The monitor from the laptop is still in good shape and I just was wondering if there is a way to convert the plug from the laptop into an hdmi situation even if I need to build a plug or something from scratch.
