My brother recently purchased me a HDMI to VGA cable from BestBuy so I could attempt to connect my desktop to my TV. I've tried multiple times but I'm not sure how to connect it properly. Could anyone help me? If you guys need more information I can add it. Also, I wasn't too sure on where this topic should go.

OK, let me start by explaining something.

HDMI is a DIGITAL output and VGA is an ANALOG output. This means that a simple adapter or cable won't do the job without an active converter to convert the signal.

What is the exact cable that you have no? A link would be best.

After connecting the cable to your PC and to your TV, All you have to do is power them up as you would with a regular monitor. The PC will automatically recognize your TV as the monitor, If your TV doesn't switch to the PC/VGA input after it is all powered on then switch your TV manually to the PC input. Its pretty basic, Shouldn't have any problems but if you do I will help further.

Okay, I did not know that. Here is my cable http://www.bestbuy.com/site/eForCity+-+VGA+to+HDMI+Cable+M/M%2C+6+FT%2C+(Video+Card+Support+Necessary)+-+Black%2C+Gold+Connector/4515769.p;jsessionid=396BEFDE5DF792BEF98C758CA3CA88D2.bbolsp-app01-167?id=1218479550069&skuId=4515769&st=HDMI%20to%20VGA&cp=1&lp=7

If I cant connect my pc to my tv without a converter, would I be able to connect my PS3 to my monitor without a converter? Just curious cause I also wouldn't mind using my computer monitor as a 'gaming outlet

Above Novuake just told me that I would also need a converter because VGA and HDMI are different types of video inputs. Is there a way to do this setup without the converter?

The link you posted is not working. Try and repost it. Unfortunately the nature of HDMI is digital, so if your monitor has a digital input(HDMI, DisplayPort or DVI) then you can adapt it from HDMI. If the monitor ONLY has VGA, then no, there is no way around it unless you have an active converter. It may be that the adapter ro converter you have is active already.
