I am building a system for my workmate. He is getting literary the cheapest possible setup so he can play BF3 (as long as he can get 30fps at 720p on low he will be happy, I am quietly confident this system will slightly surpass that).
This is the system he has brought:
CPU: AMD Athlon II 270 Dual Core(x2) 3.4Ghz AM3
MB (Chipset): GeForce 7025+nForce 630a Chipset
Ram: 4GB DDR3-1333 Ram
Harddrive: 500Gb 7200RPM
Optical Drive: CD + DVD Multi-Function DVD Writer
Graphic: Integrated Nvidia Geforce 7025
Network: Broadband Ready with Ethernet port
Audio: High Definition Audio
Case: New Eastek Black Case with 420W PSU
He got the above system for $350 NZ (thats under 290 US dollars)
I have gone and got him a Gigabyte 7770 1gb ddr5 version that he will pay me back for (with fan, not passive).
I'm worried about the "420w" powersupply included with his case....
I was going to get him the 7750 because it does not require external power connector but decided 7770 because of his requirements.
If I have to I can lend him more money to get a better PSU but I'd rather not. PSU calculator tells me 300w max output on this system, but if the 12v rail is not up for it whats the worst that can happen? Is it safe to try with the provided PSU? And if not whats the cheapest possible PSU I can feel safe about putting into this el cheapo setup.
Thanks in advance!
