This has been happening for a while now and despite searching the internet and trying numerous fixes out there nothing seems to be able to keep this from happening. It's not just while running a game.. but many different rendering related programs will cause windows to change color schemes on its own for no rhyme or reason.. GPU-z, 3DMark (any version), Unigine benchmarks, Games.. its just really annoying. My system is not running low on resources.. none of the exe's have the 'disable windows desktop composition' checked in the compatibility tab. My page file is large enough.. DWM just seems to turn off on its own. I would really like for this to not happen. Is there any fix out there?

I have what appears to be the same problem. Often the color scheme change to windows 7 when no particular programs are running. I am not a gamer so the stuff I am running is primarily word processor, outlook, media player, etc. Pretty low level stuff, yet this has been happening on my system for over a year. I can switch it back to aero theme and sometimes it will stick for a while, but as I did this morning, I switched it back to aero and within a minute it downgraded it to windows 7 basic again. Can anyone provide any solutions to this problem???

I have the exact same problem since i switched from my old ATI 6950 to a Nvidia GTX 680 as my graphics card. I have notice this happening with GPU-Z, Unigine Heaven Benchmark (but only with the extreme settings, not the basic settings), The Sims 3, and several others.

Then i remembered i had Lucid Virtu MVP running, turned that off and no more switching to basics, so i suspect a faulty MVP install. Maybe missing some dlls, or maybe missing DirectX libraries? Will test that later in detail.
