Goodmorning Tom's in few days i will built a new computer and i would like to know if the psu i have is enough to handle the system plus overclocking.

Ok the new system will be like this

Asus crosshair v formula z
FX-8350(i aim for 5ghz oc, with this cooler CNPS12X)
HD7950(some overclocking would be nice but not rly needed maybe 1.1ghz core)
NZXT Phantom 410 case with 6 fans and 2 cold cathodes
one BR-DVD RW
1-PCI WLAN card
oh and 8gb DDR3 1600mhz

My current PSU is corsair VX550W

i was thinking about XFX PRO series 850w but my budget moan so i want to know if 850w is overkill or not needed.

I want honest replies please from someone that has equivalent same system specs running with 550w psu . thanks in advance.

The PSU you have is enough for the system, but if you plan to OC then I would definitely say take a look at a good 650w unit. Your really do not want to run a PSU near max output for extended periods.

If I may, you can also go for a cheaper 990FX board and rather spend money on faster RAM. That board is way overkill.

zolton all the wattage calculators i tried they say something like 1000 watt recommended , something that is rediculous and total inacurate.

Novuake i understand that, i wanted to buy M5A99FX PRO REV.2 but its out of stock and i had to choose something else, is there anything else good like M5A99FX PRO with same amount of money that i could review it plz? trust me crosshair v formula was not my 1st choise ,

so taking a 650w psu with a cheaper good mobo i can odc add some memories in my budget , but i need help fidning a good mobo , for overclock and performance, plz guide me i buy from amazon.co.uk not 3rd party sellers to avoid shipping fees :p

One of my systems has an OC'd Q9550, 4 GB RAM, a GTX260 - a card with somewhat lower power requirements (150 watts instead of 200 watts max) to yours, a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard, 3 hard drives and an optical, and a Soundblaster card all powered by a Corsair 750TX.

Running 3 instances of Prime95 to load the CPU and 3DMark06 to load the GPU, it pulls 375 watts from the wall as measured by my Kill-a-Watt meter. Figuring 80% efficiency, the system pulls 300 watts from the PSU. So under full load, I would estimate that your system would pull 300 - 400 watts. A good 650 watt PSU (Seasonic, XFX, Corsair 650V2) would be a good choice.

Overclocking the CPU and GPU will not add more than 10% - 15% to the power consumption, still making a 650 watt PSU a good choice.

Thanks for the reliable answer jsc , I came up to buy a corsair ct 750 watt bronze plus. I know it might be a lot but it had kinda same price with lower wattage psus and 6 fans plus 2 x cathode lights in system I wanna make sure that I will run smooth without overheating in heavy loads or heavy overclocks! A lil bit more never hurts right? Thanks again and best regards!
