I have a D-Link DIR-825 wireless router. Charter just installed a Cisco DPC 3008 modem and the man doing the installation for Charter could not get to modem and the router to pass the signal. The modem handles a max of 100 meg a second. The router supports two bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Are there any known compatibility issues here?
The Cisco DPC 3008 is a standard cable modem - you will need to connect the ethernet cable from the Cisco DPC 3008 (only 1 ethernet port) to your WAN port of your D-Link DIR-825. You should then connect your PC with another ethernet cable to any of the available ports on the D-Link DIR-825. Try to connect to the D-Link DIR-825 by opening up any browser and typing in 192.168.0.1 - default username is admin, password is blank.
Sometimes the setup of the router may require you to reset the D-Link DIR-825 to factory defaults here are the instructions:
D-Link Router reset
Step 1 Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the unit.
Step 2 With the unit powered on, press and hold the Reset button.
Step 3 Hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds.
Step 4 Release the Reset button.
Step 5 The unit will reboot. Allow 20-30 seconds before reconnecting.
Step 6 The device is now at factory defaults.
Note: Do not recycle power during the reset procedure. The default user name for most D-Link devices is admin and the password is left blank.
When it says hold for about 10 seconds, don't hold for more than ten seconds or the procedure will likely fail, if ten seconds doesn't work try 5 seconds.
If you still aren't connected, check and make sure your PC is using automatic settings to connect to the D-Link DIR-825 (IP configuration).
Once you get connected, make sure to setup your wireless settings so that you are secure.
