Hi everyone,

I would really like a bit of advice on a good fan control software.
I have 6 case fans, 5 are 120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon 3000rpm and 1 Antec 200mm. I'm currently using the ASUS BIOS QFan but it's very limited, for example I can't set the case fans to below 60% even when the system is at idle! So when I'm not gaming it can be a little loud, not massively loud, they are quieter than I though they would be when I first installed them, but it's still a little too much sometimes.

So I read that SpeedFan was good but I tried it and it didn't seem to work, when I adjusted the fan speeds it didn't do anything :-\ Would I have to disable all fan control in the BIOS to get it to work???
I also tried the ASUS AISuite 2 Fan Utility which actually worked great, you can make your own profile for each fan which was brilliant......... But, then I noticed that when gaming my GPU temps were a bit high and I realised that the AISuite temps barely change at all, so the fans weren't speeding up when they were needed. In fact I don't know how the hell it registers the temps because RealTemp and CoreTemp was showing under full load my CPU was around 58c but the ASUS AISuite was still showing it at 25c! :??:

So, any recommendations or is it going to have to be a fan controller???
Cheers =)

Solution
i know on my asus the aisuite under monitoring has a whole crazy thing to adjust fan speeds depending on mobo hdd temps etc. the bios fan adjustments i turn off
make sure your aus mb bios is up to date. on most of the new asus bios there a min fan speed setting under the fan profiles. you can set your case fans to stop moving or slow down to 200 rpm. before the asus fan software will kick up a warning or speed the fans back up. also on the fans try setting the fan profile to silent. see if that helps. myself i use a fan controller that i can set the fan on the front of the case by temps. the fans will stop when the system not stressed.

Thanks for your responses guys, appreciate it.

Yeah my BIOS is up to date and it does have the "Min Fan Speed" but that only alerts me if the fan drops below that speed. I have tried the "Silent" default profile but if doesn't drop the speed that much.
What I really want is the case fans to be running at 10/20% when the system is at idle or when I'm just on the interwebs, but when I start gaming I always use a headset so I don't care if the fans sound like a jet engine because I won't here them. So I would like the fans to kick up to 75/80% when it's under stress, which is what I set the AISuite to do but as I said that program just didn't seem to register any increase in temp! I mean when it's idling I can feel the nice cool air being exhausted, but when I start gaming it feels like a hair dryer blowing out the case, so I know the temps in the case have gone up but that AISuite just doesn't register it :-\

I think I remember when I tried using it, my chip wasn't listed.

Yeah that's what I really like about it, I set up a custom profile for each individual fan that would have been perfect and exactly how I wanted it but as I said the stupid thing just didn't seem to register any increase in temp! Strange :-\

hmm thats wierd? did you check on asus.com for your mobo then search downloads for a newer update of it? i actually saw last night i had my fan ports 1-3 were limited to 70% in the bios and aisuite was saying they were maxed out. i disabled the qfan functions and now they really crank.

Yeah it was definitely the latest version :-/ I don't know, maybe I'll give it another try but this time as the temps only ever seem to increase by 2-4c according to that, rather than setting up a profile for the fans to let's say run at 10% when at idle 25-35c then increase to 40% at 35-45c I'll set it up to go from 10% to 40% with just a 2-3c increase if you see what I mean, just make the profile chart line really steep.
Yeah, might give that a try me thinks :)

Cheers for your help though pal, appreciate it.

Well I installed ASUS AISuite again and ran a few stress tests and yep, again the temp readings from the AISuite are massively lower than RealTemp and CoreTemp. Those two apps registered 27c at idle and 59c at full load whereas AISuite said 25c at idle but only 33c at full load! LOL 33c at full load I wish :pt1cable:
So I made some profiles for each fan lowering the minimum speed to 20% up to 28c (Idle) but with a very steep increase to 75% at just 32c (RealTemp around 55c) and then 100% at 38c (RealTemp around 70c). Which is a weird setup but after 5/6 hours of testing it seems to work nicely =)
It's much quieter at idle or just normal day to day usage now but all fans really kick in when I start gaming. The only problem I can foresee now is when I start gaming whether the fans might suck in my neighbours pet dog and my furniture  I might have to lower them a little =)

Cheers for all your help guys, it's much appreciated.
