Hello Tom's Hardware!

I'm building a new gaming computer, codename Goldilocks, because of wanting to get all the components that match up just perfect with each other, giving me the optimal rig without diminishing returns!

Primary Objective: To build a computer optimized for playing games.
Secondary Objective: To build a beautiful looking computer
Tertiary Objective: To build a computer that is to some degree future proof.
Quaternary Objective: To maintain a clean, cool, silent and dust free environment.

My idea is to buy the components over several months, starting with the basics.
I will reserve a slot underneath this introduction for the current list of parts so that everyone can easily see what's going on in this thread, without having to scroll through heaps of text.

I Just noticed that this got posted in the wrong section of the forum.
The right would be the Components forum, so i'm gonna make it easy for a moderator to move it there!

So, after looking through a lot of videos and reviews online, i decided on the top of the line for the i5's Intel 3570K as my CPU. It lacks the Hyperthreading of the i7's, but that's not really what I'm after playing games, and the pricetag is much lower than that of the i7's.

Motherboards was harder, as there seem to be fewer comparisons, as i guess they are harder to compare. It all seems to boil down to marginal differences, and what features seem to come with the board.

The Asus Sabertooth Z77 seem to offer what i want, according to the 4 objectives. It appears to match my CPU, it offers good quality components (5 year warranty?) good looks, and smartly placed connectors. This as well as the Thermal Armor and Dust Guard features.

I'm only concerned about dust getting stuck behind all the plastic, but oh well - up to me to make no dust get into the case then!

What I'm concerned about here with these two basic components is how well they fit together. That they are great in themselves is not in question, but where is the bottleneck - is there any bottlenecks at all? Can the motherboard handle everything my CPU throws at it? (Under reasonable overclocking speeds well inside the safe zone, thinking around 4-4.5 GHz)

About the case. It looks good, and seem to provide good ventilation, and moderate dust protection. I was intending to place my case inside an enclosed space (with heavily dustproof ventilation holes) so no dust should even reach the components. This overprotectiveness comes from living in a home where we used firewood to heat the house (lots of dust!). Note that i have since moved out but it'd like to overdo it this time, just for the heck of it.

Consider an 800 watt PSU to allow surplus power for high end gaming, and other heavy cpu usage apps.

8gb of ram is good performance for Pc gaming unless you are using the Pc for prgramming, video editing, autocad designs, or are wanting to create your own virtual hdd.s then 16gb would be better.

Keep the PC away from dusty areas, not too close to a wall, and also not next to a heater.
