hey, am just cannibalizing an older PC for parts, and am hoping I'll be able to re-use most of it. I am not exactly experienced at all with this. Any help is appreciated! So, with this mobo, is this all compatible?

mobo:
http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4084#sp

CPU: Intel Pentium G860 3.0 GHz Sandy Bridge
http://ark.intel.com/products/30720/Intel-Core2-Extreme-Processor-QX6800-8M-Cache-2_93-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231308

Graphics Card: XFX Radeon HD 7850 1 GB Video Card
http://stores.tomshardware.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=1080497899/search=FX-785A-ZDF4

Hard Drive: WD 320GB 7200RPM HDD
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136109

Power Supply : Rocketfish 700-Wat ATX CPU Power Supply

I have a case that can fit all this, but compatibility is the main issue. If you can spot something that wouldn't work, or something that costs about the same, but works better, feel free to chime in!

3 things..320 gb is a little small, get bigger if you can

rocketfish is a terrible brand..best buy i beleive..get antec, corsair, seasonic.

u dont need 700w for this build..550 would be sufficient.. unless your gonna crossfire in the future.

There are a few things to think about.
1) That hard drive (a PATA) drive is slower and older.
2) The graphics card is PCI-e 16x 3.0, the motherboard is PCI-e 16x 1.0. The card will work, but it will perform at a max of 2.5 gigatransfers/s (GT/s) v.s. PCI-e 3.0's max of 8 GT/s. The card will work, but your performance will not be what you expect.

To the previous posters... please read the OP's post more carefully.

He owns that motherboard, which is a socket 775. It is essentially an obsolete motherboard, so you won't be able to buy a new CPU for it. It only supports the much older Core 2 Quads and Duo Intel CPUs, which I cannot recommend in buying anymore. You would be better off purchasing a new motherboard and building basically from scratch.

What is your budget? I would personally not go with that CPU (the one you wrote: pentium G860 ... the one you linked is actually an old 775 Core2Quad CPU...lol why did you link this?)

If you are on a budget I would go with either the FX-4300, FX-6300 and a decent AM3+ motherboard.... OR if you want to go with intel ... an i3-3220 with a cheap intel motherboard... (you can't overclock with an i3 so you don't really need an expensive motherboard at all)

The rest of your build is not good either... you can find a better PSU than that and you dont need 700W, you can find a better ram kit than that, and that hard drive is also no good.

Fill out the new build form in the homebuilt section on tomshardware.. (ask if you cant find it) and someone can help you make a much better build than this

Ah sorry my bad, the ones I own already are the mobo, the hard drive, and the psu. Anyway, budget wise, it's not a great one, only $500. That's why I'm trying to use old parts for it, but am willing to upgrade them.

Well then going from Newegg.ca (im assuming youre from Canada?), there is only one viable option for that motherboard....

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036CVF $205 core2due E8500....

I highly recommend not buying this as it is severely outdated and only dual core. Unless Stickmansam can find you a $100 Core2Quad CPU i recommend what I previously suggested:
"If you are on a budget I would go with either the FX-4300, FX-6300 and a decent AM3+ motherboard.... OR if you want to go with intel ... an i3-3220 with a cheap intel motherboard... (you can't overclock with an i3 so you don't really need an expensive motherboard at all)"

You can re-use the hard drive for now by getting an IDE to SATA adapter, because any NEW motherboard you buy will not have an IDE port
