Why should'nt i buy a cheap SSD?

i mean if it has the specs that i need then i dont se why not..

heard a lot of talk that firmware and components play a big role in the functionality, but im just thinking its a minor difference compared to how big the price difference is..

There are many important reasons:

1. Cheap SSD manufacturers use low-end controllers, which means your performance will deteriorate much more quickly than with a mid-range SSD.

2. Quoted read and write speeds are 1/0 performance, which does not represent real-world results. Random tests are more representative, and lower end SSDs usually perform very poorly in random tests.

3. Warranty on low-end SSDs is almost non-existent and the drive itself is far less reliable than mid-range SSDs. This is not favourable.

If you wan to save money on SSDs, you can get very, very cheap high-quality SSDs from SanDisk. They are a fairly new brand so their prices aren't high at all, but their SSDs perform consistently well in random and 1/0 tests. As...

Vs

http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-octane-sata-iii-2-5-ssd.html

20€ difference. same specs..

ocz is well known and the other manufacturer i have never heard of, but since i know and have bought at the store that sells these i don't have any fear of it breaking cuz i would get a warranty anyways..

and..... i bought a power supply from ocz that was flawed and they wanted me to ship it to Netherland at my own cost to get it replaced.. thats why i ain't jumping at the ocz one. and if i can save 20 bucks then why not..

consider what you will have to do to get the no-name one replaced under warranty. Odds are you won't be able to. Sometimes the difference in price is not reflective of the true cost of ownership when you consider that you will likely have to warranty the drive at least once.

btw- Team is not a no-name brand. Newegg has been selling their flash drives for a long time but I dont think they have their ssd's. They are still low end IMO.

As an example, their Ultra Plus 256GB reaches the same speeds as the OCZ Vector, Samsung 840 Pro and Plextor M5 Pro for about 60% of the price.
