Hi,
My primary goal in getting the 256mb SSD was to install my video editing programs there since they are very disk and computer intensive. Also depending upon the resolution the rendered files can turn out to be quite large.

I originally wasn't going to install the OS on the SSD because boot up time is not real important to me. However I learned here that the OS has to be on the SSD because if not it will slow things down any way.

So I'm pretty well resigned to Windows 7 and the video editing programs on the ssd.

However now I am reading here on the forum that a lot of applications need to be installed on the same drive as the OS. Is that true?

Also what happens to programs that came with the laptop for which you have no CDs? Do they become no longer valid licensed programs because your equipment configuration has changed? How do you migrate an installed program on the laptop to the SSD? Thanks in advance for your help.

All the best,
Ted Sudol

Not necessarily. Whenever you install software, the vast majority of the time the software will let you know what location it's going to install to, and you are able to edit that location to install it elsewhere if you wish.

A lot of times during installation there's a button that you can click that says "Custom Install", "Advanced Install", or something to that effect that will also allow you to install the software to any drive/location you wish.

Just look at the setup/installation screens carefully and I'm pretty sure there will be a way to install the program wherever you wish.

If there are any programs that you cannot download and reinstall from your laptop manufacturer's website, then you will have to image or clone your current drive to your new SSD if you wish to keep the programs.
