Best cost effective motherboard to overclock AMD FX-8320

I'm looking for the most cost effective motherboard that will overclock the AMD FX-8320 for starters to 4.0 GHz and higher if possible.

I understand I'm asking too much but please don't tell me to get a Sabertooth one, I know they're awesome but they're more expensive than the CPU itself!

you should post your motherboard budget if you want to be recommended cost-effective motherboards. so far all i get it you can't buy a $190 mobo. :)
4.0 ghz is fx8320's top turbo clockrate. overclocking to that speed is minor, even an asrock 970 extreme4 can do that.

I live in the UK. I guess my top budget would be 150$ I guess which is the equivalent for £100 more or less although the prices don't actually transfer proportionally for UK e-shops etc.

I would be looking at a motherboard from this list probably:

I found it in Amazon UK. One graphics card slot is not a deal breaker. I'd like to keep my options open for the future but I possibly won't be trying a crossfire rig.

In the Asus website it says it can handle crossfire

What about the EVO model does that provide any discernible advantages for an extra £8?

The evo model had USB3 internal headers , when the M5A97 didnt .
The M5A97 R 2.0 does have the internal header

Those motherboards can crossfireX . This is not the same as crossfire where the graphics slot bandwidth is shared and 16x becomes 8x/8x .
In crossfirex the second slot is at x4 and that puts a dent in performance
If you want a guarantee of crossfire performance look for boards that can SLI since they are the ones that can also run proper crossfire

I wasn't aware of the difference between crossfire and crossfirex. It makes more sense now.

so 8/8 is better than 16/4 for crossfire? do you know roughly whats the % in performance difference?

and I guess 16/16 is better than both?

In which case is this mobo a better deal?

The card in the x4 slot gets choked . I saw a bench of 6870's and it lost about 20% performance compared to a crossfire board

Maybe newer more powerful graphics cards take a bigger hit . Im not sure .
Yes 16 x 16 times is the best option and more future proof . Pci-e standards are changing to version 3.0 which doubles the bandwidth .
An AMD board running pci-e 2.0 at 16x/16x gives you the exact same bandwidth as intel IB boards running pci-e 3.0 in 8x/8x .
Its all a bit theoretical since it makes no difference today .... but it might in a few years time
