I am currently running an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ based system and am planning on upgrading.
The computer will be used for VPN remote word processing/work, web surfing and medium-weight gaming on a 21 inch monitor running at 1600x1200 (League of Legends, DayZ Standalone, Guild Wars 2, etc.). I don't need ultra max settings, but would like high settings with respectable frame rates (40+). Here's the plan - tell me where I can improve it!
I am going to sell off my current CPU, GPU (8800gt), Mobo(MSI M2n Deluxe) and Ram (4GB DDR2) and purchase replacements. I can re-use my case and IO drive.
First question - should I purchase a new Hard Drive and a new PSU?
My current HD is --> Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive. It has been running fine. My only concern is - it is about 6 years old. Does that alone mean I should replace it, or should I keep using it?
The PSU is 6 years old also. Based on its age alone, should I replace it, or is that unnecessary since its been running fine?
I don't want to spend more than $130 on a CPU - so as of now I'm planning on purchasing an Ivy Bridge i3 - probably the 3220.
I'd like to limit my budget to 50-80 for a motherboard -> Any advice here would be very helpful as I'm not sure where to go as far as a motherboard. For example, should I future proof and get USB 3.0 and Sata 6.0?
