I have Win 7 Ultimate x86 SP1. I installed IE10 but while installing it, the installer downloader a few small updates and installed them too. It took about half an hour, over then, when I restarted the system, it took a lot time again to "Configure updates" and even over this, when system started again, it took another plethora of time in again configuring updates before login. I don't understand why does it take so much time in updating such small components and a little browser like IE!?!

Now the problem is, after all this, I see 1 GB of C drive gone. How can these mini updates and IE take up full 1gig of valuable space?

Yeah, started using it. It's awesome. ;)

Well, I've been using CCleaner for years, it does the job well. BTW, I simply reinstalled Windows and never updated that crappy IE.

I have noticed that even doing 1 single windows update totally kills the system firstly eating up large amounts of space even for updates which are themselves minute, and ever that they make the system lag like hell for no reason.

I have tried with Windows updates more than once hoping that it'll for good everytime but finally end up messing the system up.

Windows updates are totally useless. They give no new features, they only fix one or two bugs, which people don't even notice and give no new features. So, it's better to stay away from them.
