Hi,
I am planning on building a PC this month. I want a multimedia/gaming PC, and need to do heavy compiling and 3D rendering. After about two hours of research I came up with these.

# ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard
# Intel LGA 1155 Core i5 3570K Processor
# ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 AMP! Edition 2 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
# Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) PC RAM
# WD Caviar Green 2 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive

Does this configuration work?
How good/future proof is it?
How good are the over-clocking abilities?
Is the CPU Temperature Sensor (Thermometer?) good enough?
Do I need an SSD drive?
Is there anything else I need to get?
Am I wasting money on anything?

Also, should I wait till Haswell comes out, because I don't intend to make a major change for 5 to 6 years?

I have a sony hx850 3D TV and a Yamaha RX-V473 AVR. Can I use this computer instead of a PS3(4 when that comes out) as the centre of my Entertainment system? That is, I need 3D Blu-Ray capabilities and 7.1ch surround sound with a good gaming experience.

Thanks.

P.S. I can't afford a more expensive GPU.

That combination works fine. Future-proof is not a term I apply to PC technology.

While the GTX 650 is an affordable video option, I wouldn't expect miracles from it.

I see your system as a solid configuration for what you're wanting to do with it with a video card upgrade on the near horizon. I would save for at least a GTX 660 ti or GTX 670 if you want something that will even compare to the visual quality of the upcoming PS4.

You don't need to wait for Haswell, but once Haswell comes out, you might find some better deals than ever on Z77 motherboards and 1155 processors. This might help the cause with the video card upgrade.

What are you considering for a power supply? I would recommend a newer Seasonic or Corsair 500W-600W.

Atleast 4 to 5 years?

GTX 660 costs more than a PS3. :(

I haven't thought of that, didn't think it'd matter.

Still to answer

How good are the over-clocking abilities?

Can I use this computer instead of a PS3(4 when that comes out) as the centre of my Entertainment system? (If I get a gtx660ti)
Can you name a good BD Drive for this configuration?
