How to delete XP from a Windows 7 PC - W7 replaced Vista

Can anyone help - I loaded Windows 7 on a laptop that had both XP & Vista - I choose the Vista replace thinking perhaps it would delete the XP files as well - nope, I'm left with XP & W7 which seems to be OK - local Tech guy suggested I need to reload entire W7?? Help??

The real question is what OS (s) do you want on your computer and are you having any issues with the current setup?

If everything works, leave it. If Windows 7 doesn't work, back up your data, format and install Windows 7.

Windows 7 Pro or better comes with XP mode... so if there's an application that you need that only runs in XP, use XP mode.

I am confused right now.
Are you dual booting XP and VISTA?
What do you mean with choosing VISTA replace? Installing Win7 over VISTA?
What do you mean by reload Win7? Is it reinstalling or fresh install Win7 or again over VISTA?

My recommendation:
- Back up all your important datas
- destroy both XP/VISTA or your current Win7
- Install Win7 from scratch

If you want to use JUST Windows 7 (Or Vista?) without XP, you could try the "BCDEDIT" Command and delete the boot entry for XP, then delete the rest of the old files off the HDD.

NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE SO HOPEFULLY IT GOES THRU OK - firstly thanx for the response
Background - Laptop originally had XP & Vista loaded and operational and I was given an option when it turned on.
I updated with W7 - thought it would remove both & replace with W7 - XP still there and not creating a problem.
All files are backed up.

Sounds like a plan - how do I know what the old files are to delete?? Thanx for your help...

Well basically first of all, you have to know where your XP is installed, I can't tell you, only you know that, Anyway you'd have to delete the "Windows" folder, The "program files" and the "Documents and settings" directory, now of course remember the latter folder will contain things such as your Windows XP profile which contains everything you have added to your "My Documents" such as program saves, pictures and music, so make sure you back them up before deleting them.

That is more like it :)
Your situation is now fully understandable.
You have/had a laptop preinstalled with dual boot XP and Vista.
You then installed Win7 above Windows Vista. (replacing Vista)
This explains why you have now Win7 and also Win XP.

Now...
Having Windows XP dual boot with Win7 usually should not bother the system unless if you do not want to have XP anymore or something is not working properly anymore.

If you want to destroy XP and have only Win7, it is best that you clean your system by fresh installing Win7..not replacing, not repairing...really from scratch
To do this, it is important to really back up every data you see important (I understood that you did this already)
Boot from your Win7 CD/DVD...follow the instruction there...remember to remove or to format all partitions which contain WinXP and your old Win7...
Like mentioned before...you need to know where is what...where is your XP...where is your Win7...etc..
Here you will clean your previous OSs.
Then install Win7.
Beside backing-up your data...make sure that you have all the drivers too..

Another possibility to remove XP has been already explained by Shadow_07....although I would prefer to install Win7 from scratch...
The problem here is not the XP...but your previous Vista...I do not like to install an OS over an OS (Win7 over Vista)...I like it clean :)

If you really want to learn...do Shadow_07 advice...after that also still do Win7 installation from scratch although it is not needed anymore..to see how the Windows installation is done..
Knowledge to do both on your own is considered important from my opinion.
