I just bought components for a new pc.

I bought the ASUS M5A99X EVO, which supports quad channel RAM, and I bought a pack containing 2 Kingston HyperX Predator RAM modules, 8 Gb each.
I wanted to make it 32Gb total in about half a year by buying two modules more, but Linus from linustechtips tells me that it can make some problems? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D8fhsXqq4o around the 2:50 mark

Is it a big problem? I have 30 days to return them and get a quad pack if I need to.

Thanks

At 2:50 he's talking about mismatched memory, but I saw at about 2:25 he was talking about getting 2 sticks, then 2 later. What he's saying is true, but your MoBo doesn't support quad channel, so you can't even use 4 sticks. You made the right choice, don't worry.

But.. it has 4x DIMM-240 RAM sockets? Is it like two dual channels? http://bit.ly/XYIDfu (A danish site)

To clarify what "SHORYUKEN" said even though you have 4 places to put your ram into, it still only runs duel channel. 2 slots per channel.

Yeah, channels aren't based off of the amount of slots you have, it's the coloring I guess you could say.

If you have a MoBo with 4 slots, but only 2 colors for the 4 slots, that dual channel. If they are all different colors, that's quad channel. But you cannot have quad channel with only 4 slots. Therefore you need an 8 slot MoBo for quad channel.

As I post in all RAM question threads, they sell RAM in sets because those sticks are individually tested together at the factory to work together. Thus, it is safest to buy a full set at once, but, RAM with the same speed and timings *should* work fine in conjunction with a previously purchased set (of same speed and timings).
