Hey guys, I just wanted to know what all games can fully take advantage of my AMD FX 8350's 8 cores. Thanks in advance folks :)

Hi Ya. It would likely be more helpful if you listed the games you are interested in and we could let you know their "core support". There are so many games across all types (MMO, FPS, RP, etc.) they take advantage of multi core that a list here is impractical. Also I know of none optimized for 8 cores but many that will utilize 2-4. Hope this helps.

Exactly, most games will support only 2 cores. Surprisingly many of them support 3 cores (I always guessed this is from XBOX port but I don't know). And some of them support 4 cores, but I never heard of a game supporting 8.

well most games dont utilize all 8 cores, but will distribute the load more effectively across all cores, in bf3 i doubt ull see all core at 100% but more like a few higher and then changing. Yes BF3 does utilize quite well and one the best known multicore games, as my x6 reaches 76% use and my friends x6 at %97 (different gpus)but im not sure on how accurate the program was but def prefers more cores over the usual dual core required games

Yeah. BF3 loves my 3930k it will fully load up my physical cores but not my Hyperthreading ones. But when it comes to games with Multicore support its the best so far, AMD's 6 and 8 core cpu's start to show decent potential under BF3

A good way to tell how well a game is threaded is to compare a i5 and fx 8350 in games and the fps are identical lol, in bf3 the two are within 2fps of each other where usually the fx is about 5-10 fps behind, not a great indicator but shows which games like the core count of the fx 8 cores from the faster cored i5

even if a game does utilize all 8 cores it will unlikely be using 100% of all those cores, its just impossible for the coding for a game to be that efficient when the workload can vary so much at any point in the game. So you would never get double performance form 8 core over 4 core for example, but you will see an increase. At this stage having a 4 core cpu that can process more instructions per clock cycle is better for gaming than an 8 core cpu that processes less data per core and per clock cycle. not to mention AMD's 8 core cpu has 8 integer cores bot only 4 FPU cores, and FPU performance is very important for games.

Honestly, right now any game which would allow me to reach the limit to my PC's performance, is something I'd really want. Really want to test out the limit of my new Rig.

Battlefield 3, crysis 3, far cry 3, and skyrim are some off the top of my head that like higher core count or at least utilize a quad core. But i doubt that ur cpu will be stressed to the limit with just one games, as most new games utilize a better graphics card over the processor performance, not saying to go ahead and run a dual core with a 680 lol Also i think it was mentioned before that games are not coded to fully efficiently use full 8 cores, as even if u get near 100% use, ud need other programs running in the background and possibly a complete different games, so a game itself will not stress all 8 cores but there are some that will utilize and run better off 4+ cores but not full 8

Man, I have a Sapphire HD 7970 GHz edition Vapor X 3 GB Card and 16 gigs of RAM, so I really would like to see the peak of my rig's performance

The FX8350 is fully capable of supporting that hardware.

but a 3570k would be better.

No Doubt, but I may state a point. Lack of funds man, hence I went for AMD

What i meant is the 8 core as having 8 cores and most things not using all cores will not be fully utilized, it will run fine with 7970. So when ur gaming at max settings and crisp clean frames, then ull hit ur rigs peak performance. reaching peak performance in games is more about the graphics than the cpu. Its just more of if the cpu can handle the processing the game requires it to do, than to have the cpu do it all. U can pair a 8350 with a lesser card and obviously play on a lower setting and fps but the graphics card will still be maxed out and the cpu not even close. and of course pair ur 7970 with an older core 2 quad or phenom x4, and get prob better fps than the 8350 and a lesser gpu

Very well said man, though, I also might do some video editing and rendering shit.. so would my 8350 help in that? o_O

Okay my game list for now is this:
Gaming List 2013 Rev 2.0
1. Skyrim
2. Crysis 3
3. Metro 2033
4. Tomb Raider
5. Farcry 3
6. Max Payne 3
7. Battlefield 3
8. AC series in order
9. Prototype 2
So what would be my average performance in these games and which will be able to take advantage of my 8350-HD 7970 combo thoroughly?

you should expect good performance across all those games. Skyrim will probably be the one you are most cpu bound in and may not be able to maintain a solid 60fps, the game engine responds better to ipc rather than core count, it does benefit from 8 cores but doesnt fully utillise them so the gains are minimal. Likewise crysis 3 will struggle to maintain 60fps on the highest settings, but so does an i5. The rest should run pretty well. You can take more advantage of the 7970's power by increasing quality settings like AA and getting more eye candy without much of an impact on fps.

I wonder, what if you had 4 cores (or maybe 6) going on crysis, or battlefield, or some game, and then you had the other two for another thing like video editing or streaming, or internet browsing in the background. Would that be where the 8 cores benefit?

why the hell would you game while streaming, video editing or browsing? if you really wanted to you can set the core affinity in windows task manager so that the game only uses x amount of cores, leaving the others idle for other things. But like i said, kind of pointless. not to mention AMD's "cores" arent full cores like intels. AMD's FX "cores" share 1 FPU core between 2 Integer cores, so its kind of half way between intels hyperthreading and having a full core. games are heavily reliant on FPU performance, that is the main part AMD's cpu's lack in, although it has been improved a bit in the piledriver cpu's compared to bulldozer.

If something is rendering in the background why not use the time waiting for it to do some gaming? Obviously I'm not going to be actively video editing while I'm gaming, or actively browsing the web but I like to have windows for browsing open while I'm gaming. Plus I was just wondering. Don't need to be such a jackass

Yes BF4 is utilizing all my 8 cores of FX 8350 Yes I am enjoying it and the game also utilizes it happily I love it
