BIOS wont recognize SATA Hard Drive/ Optical Drive

First time building a computer. im using an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard and my hard drive and optical drive aren't recognized by my motherboard. not sure on what to do.

use the new SATA cables that came with the new motherboard, make sure you plugged in the power cable all the way and the right way, the power cable should go in only one way, if you had to force the power cable on, you may have blown both devices

ive been using those cables still nothing though, everything is in properly
