Probably not an appropriate solution... better suggestion?

I bought a new SSD for my laptop... a Samsung 840 series that is extremely thin, thinner than most and thin enough to fit into an ultrabook. I guess it's my fault for not having done further research about it. The SSD came in the mail and it plugged in fine but it was smaller than the compartment itself and therefore loose inside the laptop.

Probably not my smartest idea, but I used a small piece of the cardboard from the box of the SSD to secure the SSD in position. Obviously that is not the best solution but I figured it was better than letting it flop around in there. My only concern is the heat... I know that HDD's can get hot but I was under the impression that since SSD's had no moving parts that they didn't get nearly as hot.

I looked to see if I could find a cage or caddy or something on the internet to make if fit correctly but I found nothing. If there is a product out there meant for this purpose, please let me know.

Any and all insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I also have a Samsung SSD in my Lenovo X1 which requires the thin (7mm) height devices.

Not sure what laptop you have, however here is what I did.

In my situation, I used the rubber rails and mount bracket that the original HDD came from Lenovo with and applied that to the SSD and it worked great.

See image of the rubber rails here:

If you dont have the kit, Amazon has them here:
http://www.amazon.com/HDD-Rubber-Rails-FRU-41v9756/dp/B004QWCWY0

Even if you do not have a Lenovo or other model, chances are the ruber rail kits will do the trick for you.

Hope that helps.
