So i have a dual core 2.6ghz intel 6600 with a nvidia gt8500, 2gb RAM, and using 2 displays at the moment. My main monitor is an Acer 27" HR27AH and it is amazing for a passive 3d monitor for $299! So with that i have optimized my computer for Nivida 3D and it looks amazing the only problem is i can not run a game in 3d or it will be to laggy to play also when i play movies in 3D my computer lags way to much. I have a 3rd monitor i want to attach but cannot due to the graphics card and not wanting to waste money on an adapter when I know i need an upgrade.

Im only will to upgrade the cpu and or the graphics card what ever is needed to get this system going smoothly and looking amazing. Please help!!

Solution
Just throw another 2GB stick at the system, it will be a patch fix until you take the proper measure of getting a new rig outright.

Also could get a 7750, that supports three display outputs and doesn't require PCI-E power cables (which chances are your PSU doesnt have). AMD have their own 3D technology called 3DHD, though from what I understand its not as good as Nvidia's. However its multi-monitor utility is far better if gaming across the monitors is a concern (though wouldn't even bother with that weak a card).

you will need a whole new setup to run anything in 3d. nothing you have now is powerful enough. i would recommend you check your bank account and figure out a budget, the guys here are very helpful with build advice.

You basically need a whole new computer. That rig is too old to upgrade in any meaningful way, and if you try you'l end up with a whole new rig anyway.
If you dont have the budget to get a whole new computer, the most I recommend you do is throw a 7750 on the rig. Dont expect great performance at 1080p, much less 3D gaming.

Also for Nvidia 3D gaming, you need a 120hz monitor that is Nvidia 3D Vision ready. These monitors typically come in around $500-600 at 27", $400 for a 24" model. I doubt that monitor can properly support 3D visuals.

Points:
1) No point in upgrading if you use only DDR2 RAM (you'd need a new PC).
2) You don't have enough RAM (recommend 8GB of DDR3 1600MHz)
3) Gaming in 3D drops frame rates to about HALF. You'll have to sacrifice quality of frame rates to play most games even on a far better gaming PC. Gaming in 3D is recommended mainly for those with very high-end machines.

Basically I'm seeing two choices:
1) Get a better graphics card only, or
2) Build a completely new PC.

It's hard to recommend without knowing your:
a) motherboard, and
b) Power Supply

If you're using an older motherboard with DDR2 RAM then there's little point in a major upgrade so I'd probably just recommend an HD7870 2GB card.

3D Movie issues?
Unless you have a major software issue the problem is likely your CPU is being maxed out (monitor with Task Manager. CTRL-ALT-DEL). A modern graphics card should be able to offload to the GPU though you'd have to set that up in Software or you'll still be CPU-bottlenecked. I can't provide more info as I don't have a 3D monitor.

Conclusion:
I can only really recommend getting an HD7870 2GB or building a completely new system. Also, I'd avoid 3D gaming.

I have just checked my cpu usage and the memory and the cpu is barely hitting 10% when running a movie but my memory has only 123mb free. Im guessing i have to upgrade RAM to atleast get rid of the slow processing all the time. Is it possible to do this and then use the new RAM in a new build at a later date?
if so please help with some products..

the 3d side of things is my tv is Optimized for Nvidia Geforce 3D and with my Nvidia GT8500 it is able to show amazing 3d quality it is as good or better then active 3d i have both here. This monitor is amazing using the passive 3D through the pc but the 2d to 3d is nothing special.

I would just love to be able to get 3 monitors without any lag at all with running a few programs at once is that really to much to ask? :)

thanks heaps for the feedback guys really appreciate it!

Since that's an LGA775 system, there's a 50/50 chance between the RAM being DDR2 and DDR3. Will need info on the motherboard before we can say either way. If its DDR2, then any RAM you buy for the system wont be usable in any later rigs as its a defunct standard. If its DDR3 then your in luck.
if its DDR3, I advise getting 8GB of 1600Mhz CL9 1.5v RAM.

It is on hardware that old.
Try plugging your 3rd monitor into the motherboard outputs, you might get lucky and the iGPU isnt disabled by virtue of having a dedicated GPU in the rig. That's how I'm running my rig right now, far right monitor is plugged into the iGPU :D.
