specs say 8gb max but it has intel HM76 chipset could it handle more?

While I normally would agree with you. This has me wondering. It is a screen shot of the task manager screen http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y136/sully5981/RAM_zpsac844a1c.jpg Specs say one thing but things eventually evolve. I.e. I have a synology ds211j that when I bought it three years ago, only supported 2tb hard drives. With software updates, it can now support 4tb hard drives. I was just wondering if there is anyone out there that would know if a motherboard has four slots, will one slot differ from the other, e.g. one slot can only handle 2gb while the other can only handle 4gb on the same MB.

^Since the memory controller has been integrated into the cpu which in your case can handle 32GB, you can install the 16 gb ram provided each memory slot itself can support 8 GB. people have used the crucial memory program and have successfully upped their ram and it seems reliable enough.
All this does suggest that you might be okay with 16GB ram but be ready to be denied any warranty coverage coz you might just void it by installing that much ram.

Thanks, I was just wondering how reliable the crucial system scanner was. I am still debating whether to leave it at 6gb or up it to 8gb or 16gb. 8gb is plenty but I do some video editing and have gotten my desktop to used 12-13gb of 16gb ram on multiple occasions. As far as the warranty goes, I'm dropping a ssd hopefully tomorrow if it arrives so that might void the warranty there.

Did you try installing more than 8GB? If so, did it work?
ASUS told me that my A55VM laptop won't handle more than 8 GB. That would be a real shame as it is still working wonderful besides the limitation of the RAM.

EDIT:
The A55VM/K55VM can handle more than 8GB! I have now installed a 4 + 8 GB of RAM (from Crucial) and it works perfectly. Windows 7 accepts it without any problems.
