That one used to be the preferred one or even better awus051nh since it was dual band. They don't make the 51 anymore and the 36 is only 2.4. The key reason many people used these were you could put large external antenna on these.

There are many more that work much better and have the more advanced features such as wide band and mimo support. So far I have not found one that allows external antenna though. I assume you know you must use linux so I would look for cards that are supported on backtrack. You can also look for supported cards on the airmon-ng site.

Just a note on the above post...stop over reacting to things. The same exact tools are used both for good and bad purposes. I am actually paid to run many of the same exact "hacking" tools to troubleshoot the network where I work. Anyone who works in wireless know very well these tools are waste of time trying to break into a network that is protected by something like WPA/WPA2. Still most these tools are exactly that you still need a huge amount of knowledge to use packet captures either for good or bad purposes. Its not some magic thing like they show on tv that you can click a few things and it cracks a password.

guess it was their use of the word Hijacking that sounded like they wanted to use it on a network they werent

authorised to

i realise penetration testing can also be used in a good way to check for security holes

and am quite familiar in the use of it to do so

i know its not like tv--click and you are breaking a huge complicated password

backtrack has also now been updated to become kali linux now if you are interested

which is also fine if used in a legal way to test networks you are authorised to
