windows vista makes weird beeping sounds after i push the power button

windows vista home preminum making beeping sounds when i push the power button

system model is HP PAVILION a1710n
HDD 320 gb
ram 1024MB
AMD DUAL CORE PROCESSER 4200+
NIVIDIA GRAPHICS


when i push the power button it only takes at least 1 second or less and it starts beeping 2 times then there is a pause then it does it again but the second beep is always longer i need help please suggest ideas on how to fix it

Hi Jerry. Sorry to hear about your problem. Maybe I can help.
First of all, when you first turn on a computer, the motherboard goes through a process called a "POST". This is before Windows is even started up. It checks for RAM errors, makes sure that there's a working HDD, etc. If it finds nothing wrong, it will issue a single short beep, but this is often disabled by PC builders. If, however, the motherboard does find something wrong, it will issue a series of beep tones (long and short) that will tell you what's wrong. The meaning can be different for each brand of MB. Find out which MB you have installed (the HP website might have that info) and you might be able to find out what the MB is telling you.
