Is there a step by step guide to do a WIN7 Home install to the SSD with all other program installs directed to a HD?

I've read hundreds of posts and seems every post has additional data that others don't.

I have a Dell Inspiron 7720 17R that has had the motherboard, LCD replaced and of course the on suite Tech had no idea how to rebuild the Laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

It's pretty simple.
ONLY have the ssd plugged in while doing your Windows 7 Installation. That makes sure it's on the ssd.
After that, any apps, games, documents etc that you install. Just make sure to move them to your hdd. That can be marked as w/e you make it in the computer management. Examples. Z: R: T: etc etc.

Some useful tips to help optimally install your SSD

Change the locations of your Documents/Pictures/Downloads/Music//Videos folders to your HDD by Rt CLick on individual folders, select Properties, and on the Location tab choose Move. You'll have to create new folders on the HDD to move to. You can name them exactly the same, eg. My Documents etc.

1st of all thanks to all who replied to this thread. I've ignored this problem but now have time to correct it. I'll be using a Windows 8 Home CD.

Question I have is it worth buying a bigger mSATA SSD drive or should I just but an SSD and leave the mSATA unplugged?

I'd like to get the speed of an SSD.

Thanks for replying.

you planning on putting the OS on the mSATA and the programs on the SSD?

there's other ways of doing the "install programs on different drive" - one that is simple and TOTALLY hands-off once you set it up. just make the "Program Files" and "Program Files x86" into symbolic links from the main drive to whatever other drive you use. the OS will then automatically get redirected, every single time, without you having to manually point it to the other drive.

haven't got that far yet. If a SSD as the primary drive is faster than the mSATA drive then I'll just do a clean install on windows 8 on the SSD and disconnect the mSATA drive.
