I know what you guys are going to say, "buy a new system!" But I DONT want to. im not a hardcore gamer wanting to play high end games with the best resolution. I just want to upgrade my crappy mx440 into something that can let me play decent games like amnesia, half-life, team fortress or Modern warefare in normal-highish settings.I was planning on buying the Radeon 9700 or 9800 pro. I want to the card to be on directx9, but directx10 would be amazing. Here are my specs:

Intel Pentium 4
CPU 2.40 GHz
2.5GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8x (Dell)

The important information is what kind of dell system do you have. Or, what kind of motherboard. The reason is if it only supports PCI express 2.0 that will limit your choices to graphics cards only supported by the PCI express 2.0.

like i said, my pc is pretty embarrasing. I got standard resolution 1280 X 1024. You think a radeon 9700 is good enough? i want to be able to play amnesia, half life 2, tf2

The most powerful AGP cards you could have got were the NVidia Geforce 7800 GS and the ATi Radeon X1650 Pro. They both sported 256MB of ram, needed a 4-pin power plug from the power supply for additional power (either the 4-pin hard drive molex or 4-pin floppy connector) and supported directX 9 but not 10. I believe both companies released later cards which supported directX 10. but they weren't as powerful, I cannot remember model name/numbers anyway.

I don't know if the cards you are looking at are powerful enough for your games. I do know you'll need to scour ebay as it's a long time since they were available new.
