CPU no longer idles, new mobo.

Hello, I just bought a new motherboard, and ever since installation my cpu is running at 3000mhz+ all the time, it no longer idles at 1600mhz. I'm not overclocking or anything, the fan speed is getting on my nerves because of this. Thanks!

What system? BIOS setting for Intel would be Speed step and Cool and quiet for AMD.

It's intel. I cant find speed step in my bios, I bought an MSI Z77A-G41 LGA1155 motherboard and I'm using an i7 2600

It is called EIST in your OC menu in UEFI page 2.12 in your manual.

You have smart fan settings as well for the fan, it is in your settings menu and you set target temp for the fan to spin up. The idle thing I do not under stand.

I got it to lower its idle to 1600mhz using Power Settings in Windows. The fan RPM is still really high, I set the target temp to 45C and minimum 25% and it still has high RPM.

Set your target to something like 55°C and see what it does.
