Hi i have a mid end gaming pc with an Athlon 64 x2 clocked at 2.2 ghz stock. i am experiencing slight stutter in some games. i have a 470 with 4 gb of corsair xms2 ram and win 7 32bit. i would like to upgrade to a quad core phenom, would i see a difinate performance gain. the upgrade is only 40 bucks.

here are my specs
Asus M2N-SLI non deluxe
2x2 Corsair xms2 or xm2s
evga gtx 470 1 1/4gb
2.2 ghz dual core athlon
500gb seagate 3/gbs
thermaltake 430w psu or i could swap in a semi geniric 650w
nzxt source 210 white case
some aftermarket thermaltake cooler.
all replies welcome

I went from a 5000+ athlon to a phenom x4 9650, was paired with a 9800gt, and with wow went from good to ultra no problem from the upgrade. Also before the dual core couldnt play bf3, with the quad core the 9800gt, and 4gb ddr2 played bf3 at 1080p barely playable fps 30fps with fps drops but playable if u rlly wanted to play it lol

The framerate increase would vary by the game. Theoretically, over double your current framerate (twice the processing power and less GPU bottleneck). More likely though would be a 25%-100% increase in FPS on most games with the higher percentage coming from games that are CPU dependent.

The system should run much better overall as the OS is pretty good at splitting tasks on multicore CPUs.

I finally purchased a new cpu. I decided to go with a phenom II 925 with a hyper 212 evo cooler for 20 dollars more
