Hi, have been looking for a new PSU for my current system, since the one is have is noisy, and i need a much more quiet one.
The new XFX ProSeries Black Edition 80+ Gold caught my attention, but i don't know if i should get the 750W or 850W version. Both provide more than enough power for my system, so the main concerns are silence and durability. I am planning to keep it for many years to come.
Will the 850W version last longer than the 750W version since it won't use as much of its full potential?
Does the 850W draw more power from the wall than the 750W, or will it just draw as much as the system needs?

The 850 watt one will work less hard and should be more quiet. If it takes more power it will be like under 1 %. Modern power supplies are very efficient.

And YES the system will just take what it needs.

Does it have hybrid fan control(i am almost sure some of the XFX ones had it), if it does, a lower powered system will not even need the fan to kick in often.

Yes, it does have Hybrid Fan Control. That is one of the main reasons i think this PSU looks very exciting, since my system is not under heavy load most of the time i am on the computer.

With the 850W, does it also mean it will not wear down as fast as the 750W and therefore last longer?

Electronics do last longer if they are kept cooler, so lower load=less heat. If you do not find the fan loud you may even try with the hybrid fan off since it will keep things even cooler.

All quality power supplies last a long time. While components to loose effectiveness over the years, it should take a long time before it becomes a problem.

XFX does offer a 5 year warranty on that unit and chances are it will outlast that period of time with ease.

My corsair HX 850 does not even blow out warm air unless it is working very hard, so that is how much more efficient modern power supplies are.

Avoid the unit that is used in the TX850 and the Seasonic M12II 850 (They are both the same).

They both have extremely aggressive fan profiles (Going up to close to 100% in about 40% load), and have crappy loud low CFM fans.

Other than that, Seasonic and corsair are normally good, except there are alot of issues with the tx650 and hx650.
