30 second boot time seems too slow

Hi guys so I have a 60gb boot drive that I was very happy with until I installed a new gpu. I was getting incredibly fast boot times with my gtx 560 and now with my 7870xt it takes about 30 seconds to go from button press to desktop. I have disabled everything except the essentials for startup and have checked my bios settings and have set ACHI and boot from my ssd. I cant think of anything else to do...Any help is much appreciated.

maybe you have a dvd in the drive? try to measure the time adter the beep sound

lol nah no dvd in the drive and I dont have the speaker connected. I fly right through the post but the majority of my time is spent waiting for the windows logo to fully form. So Im pretty sure its something in windows or something it is trying to load

in mine the logo does not get completed, just as it is about to (the 4 thingy), it turns black then shows the desktop.

maybe your ssd is near full? my ssd is at least 2 years old, and not even a high end one, an old intel

Look and see what is in your startup folder. I suppose it could be that Catalyst takes longer than Nvidias. I never really noticed a difference between the two myself. 30 sec. is not really a bad boot time either. What OS are you running?

Im running windows 7 and I know its not bad at all. Its just slower than before is all. And its all the windows logo that takes the longest.

And I have taken just about everything out of my startup folder including catalyst.

It may be caused by some windows updates. There are a lot of BIOS and OS tweaks you can do to speed it up. Google around a bit and I bet you can shave 5 seconds off of it.

I have been googling it but have been coming up empty. As I said I believe I have done all the bios tweaks I can because only the windows logo is taking the longest. I never even see my bios splash screen cuz it flies by so quick. I will try updating windows and see what happens as well. Any other suggestions as to what could be causing the slowdown?

I guess we are back to the loading of your gpu drivers. That may be something you can't do anything about other than keeping up to date on them.

Is the spinning "Windows" forming star thingy not the time that services are started? E.G. services that have "NO USER REQUIRED" enabled? I believe so, try looking down your service list *Cough*NVIDIA and ATI drivers*Cough*.

Try disabling the drives for NVIDIA (Because you have an ATI card, no use for them?) along with the ATI drivers.

If your PC instantly speeds up, you'll know it's the drivers, at that point it's either:-
A. Time to live (So close to TTL) with it
B. Fiddle around with the driver's settings
C. Attempt to use 3rd party drivers (if any exist) that are faster

I have used driver sweeper multiple times to clear out all nvidia drivers. I would rather not use third party drivers.

Again I understand that 30 seconds from power button press is not slow but I have seen and experienced people whose windows logo barely has time to fully form before skipping to the desktop.

I know its possible so I am just trying to get there myself. If my drivers prevent me then thats fine because I can live with a 30 second boot time given that I have great performance in games.

Any other recommendations at all? Im just about positive it could be resolved by changing some setting in windows itself.

have you benchmarked your SSD lately ansd compared it to when it was new?
When they get full they slow down esp if you haven't overprovisioned the drive or given garbage collection & trim time to work thier magics. (log out and walk away for several hours. Leave the pc running at the log in screen)

My ssd has been at the same storage since I got it. I have about 20gb left and this hasnt changed recently at all. I will try leaving my computer on for a while as you said.

So I tried leaving my computer on for a bit and it doesnt seem to have done anything to increase my boot times. I continually read about peoples windows logo being cut out because the computer boots too fast and that is what I experienced before I changed my graphics card. Still have not found the solution to my issue yet. I have also installed all windows updates as well.

Hmmm.. Make sure your antivirus hasn't begun doing a scan at bootup and if thats not it, boot up with boot logging enabled and we can hopefully look to see whats taking so long by examining the log file.
