Newly installed graphics cards not getting signal to monitor

Ok, so I recently asked for opinions on what gpu to get and that was resolved. I went with a HD6670 by XFX since my cpu is slightly old and I didn't want to push it too far. Also upgraded psu to corsair 430w as requirements for card said 400w. PSU install was easy. Turned comp on and it works perfectly. Then I disabled onboard graphics, powered down and started installing the new gpu. I made sure I was properly grounded at all times. After installing new card into the pcie x 16 slot I turned it back on and monitor said no signal but the fan on the gpu was running. Not quite wide open but turning pretty fast. So I connected vga to the onboard again and still no signal. Turned pc back off, took out new card, powered on and monitor worked just fine. I have search the internet for similar problems and it seems people experiencing this had the gpu work for months prior to getting no signal. So, I called the company and they are sending a replacement in case it is a defective card. I could not install drivers for the card as it was not installed or monitor wasn't working when it was installed. My question is, did I forget to do something? Or does anyone have an idea what I should do? Thinking of taking it into best buy when replacement gets here if I can't get it resolved this weekend. Link below to comp info. It's older and slow please don't laugh too much lol. Thanks in advance

Did you connect the PCI-E power cables from your power supply to your card?

I don't think it's a power supply problem (unless it's a faulty unit) since the HD6670 is really a low power card.

I agree, listing the parts could give us some more details.

Why would you tell him to get a 650W unit? Most users these days even with a high-end GPU will suffice from a good 550W unit.

I'm pretty sure the HD6670 doesn't need one.

Ye the HD 6670 does not use PCI-E power connector. My best guess would be a defective card. For AMD/ATI cards I personally only trust Sapphire I have had two XFX card over the years and they both have died within 1 month of getting them the first was DOA and the replacement died a month later. I did not even do a second RMA I just put it back in the box and shoved it in the closet it was not worth my time to mess with it again. Got a Sapphire and did not look back.

The comp full specs are here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02628380#N321

PSU: http://www.corsair.com/us/power-supply-units/cx-series-psu/cx-series-cx430m-modular-atx-power-supply-430-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-psu.html
GPU: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-6000/hd-6670/Pages/amd-radeon-hd-6670-overview.aspx#3

I doubled checked the pci e x16 slot and it is clean, no obstructions. The release tab for the slot clicks/locks when the new gpu is inserted. All power connections are good as well. Everything works fine off of the onboard graphics

Also, purchased new monitor to tower cables and still nothing on vga or dvi

It could be a defective card. Although sometimes similar issues have been known to be fixed after a motherboard BIOS update. Check with HP and see if you can get any newer BIOS version than what you are currently using, though chances are, most outdated products won't get any driver/firmware support.

@Bryon...I was thinking of not bothering with replacement and going with sapphire
@Ezioas...I just checked HP site, there are a few updates available, for BIOS, ATI/AMD, and even 1 for mobo. Downloading them now and tomorrow will see if it helps then post back.

So after every update possible under the sun the card still did not work. Getting refund for it. Cancelled replacement and went to best buy. Sadly they couldn't get the 6670 to work either. They put 2 nvidia card in it and it worked fine. Nvidias were both 3.0s.

I linked everything in this thread from pc oem to replacement gpu to psu.

The problem is resolved now. The 2.1 does not agree with the oem mobo's 1.0 slot. got a different gpu with a 3.0 and it works fine.
