8GB or 16GB for HD Video Editing?

Hey everyone,

I'm building a computer for a friend who will need to be doing a bit of video editing for a university course. The problem is we're on a budget and trying to decide where it would be best to spend money.

Would 8GB be enough RAM or would we have to go for 16GB?

Cheers

Thanks, would he be able to manage with 8GB though as we're on a budget? Or will it not be able to cope?

I'm asking because it's a mini-ITX build, so there's only two RAM slots & no room for upgrading.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I was just wondering about the temp space/caching you mentioned. He decided that he wants a SSD, so will that make it less of a problem if he does run out of RAM space?
