i'm trying to get my pc to play games like the witcher 2 and black ops 2 and so I would like to know if I would be able to play these games if I had the sapphire radeon 6700 1gb gddr5 graphics card
It should be but there was an issue with ver 2.1 cards in ver 1.x slot and I am not sure there is a bios upgrade for your board to fix that. A similar performing cards like the HD7750 or gtx650, gtx550Ti would not have that issue.
It's compatible, and black ops will run just fine even maxed out. Witcher will also run without problems. I asume that you have 4Gb ram to go with this CPU and 6770.

so should I get a new motherboard, if so please recommend one which is under £50.
I also forgot to mention earlier that my power supply is a EN60950 480W, also recommend one if this isn't good enough but please make sure it is pretty cheap as I have a low buget
The incompatibility issue is with the PCI Express 1.0a motherboards and PCI Express 2.0 or 2.1 graphics cards.
Your ASUS P5SD2-VM's SiS chipset is based on the PCI Express 1.1 specification which was supposed to have resolved the issue.
so am I okay to buy the graphics card or do I have to choose another one?
I can't guarantee compatibility.
I have heard of cases where the graphics card maker deviated slightly from the PCI Express 2.0 or 2.1 specification causing backward compatibility with the motherboard's PCI Express x16 1.1 slot to be broken. In some of those cases the resolution was to update the motherboard's BIOS version if the motherboard manufacturer had supplied a BIOS fix for that problem.
It was a thing that came up a few years ago when AMD released the HD5xxx series cards in ver 2.1. Many motherboards manufacturers came with a BIOS fix but not across the board for all their products. Your board has the latest BIOS update from 2009.07.06 which I believe was just before the launch of those cards in the fall of 2009.
I as well can not guarantee compatibility hence my post above recommending similar performing cards that I know are not PCIe ver 2.1 therefore free of that issue.

okay I have decided to get the sapphire radeon 7750, but can you plese check that it will work properly as I've looked around the internet and i'm not sure it will work with my motherboard...thanks
if it won't work could you please recommend a cheap motherboard which would also work with the cpu...thanks
It should work, have not seen any issues with the 7xxx series cards.
sorry it took so long for me to reply back, I bought the sapphire radeon 7750 1 gb gddr5 and it works fine but every time I shut down the computer the moniter will switch off but the fans keep running, any ideas on what is the problem?
