There is a lot of good expert advice on this forum, so I thought maybe someone could help me with a question. I require a workstation to use for After Effects and Cinema 4D rendering; it has to be able to take advantage of the new ray traced 3D feature of CS6. I saw a great deal at a local computer store for an Acer desktop, specs as follows:

- Intel Core i7 processor 3770
- NVIDIA GeForce GT630 2GB
- 2TB hard drive/1GB solid state cache
- 10 GB DDR3 memory

I was going to add an NVIDIA Quadro 2000 1GB 128 bit workstation card to the tower for faster rendering.

How well would this combination work for Ae and C4D?

Thanks in advance for any help!

My workstation has the v5900. AMAZING card for a workstation.

I do mostly CAD junk on my workstation, dual screen setup.
For the price, though, those specs are "O.K", especially if on a budget.
I would look for a PSU that has 90% efficiency, 700W+ at minimum.
If you can do better though, I've been a fan of Intel's Xeon's...

That config, with the Quadro, should take advantage of the apps and provide pretty decent rendering performance. Acer, however, as a brand is of questionable quality. Just make sure it is a great price. Also, I assume you already have the Quadro. If not, you could build a better quality system for the cost, in all likelihood.

Last, you'll need to verify that the Acer's power supply can power your desired Quadro.

Not really a work station specs but still pretty decent for what you're going to do.

If the price of that set-up is around $700ish, then it would be a pretty decent deal. otherwise, you should just try and build it yourself.

you would probably do better with a AMD FirePro V5900 instead of the Quadro 2000 since it's usually cheaper and outperforms the Quadro.

You should look more into these sorts of processors that is specifically designed FOR workstations. Though doesn't have to be that one.

Thanks for all the input! The Acer was actually selling for around $900 CAD, but it really sounds like maybe I should do my own build. Don't have the card yet, either, and sure like the price point of the V5900 better than the quadro.
