I'm getting very annoyed by my Master Cooler Hyper N520. It seems that the only thing running at 100% speed is the CPU fan and it's loud as hell. So I was wondering which CPU cooler would be the best sound wise without affecting the performance. I agree that louder = better cooling. I heard about these two coolers :

Corsair H80i
Noctua NH-D14

What do you think and I'm open for suggestions

Note : I overclock my Phenom II X4 965 at 4.00 and my back case can only take 120mm fans

I have a Sabertooth 990FX R.2. I tried to fix it with AI Suite but it doesn't work. The cpu continues to spin 100% even if in silent mode. I don't think changing the speed in bios wouldn't help cuz I won't be able to control the speed depending on the use (idle and load). I saw a lot of people complaining about the H80i saying that it's noisy and not much of a difference in temperatures versus high-end air coolers.

For now, the temperatures are : idle at 32c and load at 40c

The H100i seems very interesting, but my case doesn't have a dual 120mm fans on top. I have an Antec Eleven Hundred.

I'll try to change the speed in bios. Is there something better than the curret cooler I have?

If you got the fund a h100i dual fan is probably the best liquid cooler now. If you cant fit it no point getting it.

Noctua NH-D14 or Hyper 212 evo very good air coolers.
Both should be better than yours.

In most bios theres fan profile where you can make the fan something that fits you.

You are not going to overclock any STARS architecture chip much past 4Ghz even with a several hundred dollar custom water loop. Spending over $100 on an H80/H100 is not only a waste of money as far as higher clocks go they are quite loud compared to air coolers. Since noise is your number one concern this might help.

In my experience Scythe products are extremely silent.

If you are unable to control fan speed and they all run 100%, it's going to be loud regardless of what you get. Something's broken if it's not spinning the fan down at idle. Did you double check that the CPU fan is plugged into the CPU header on the mobo and not some other one?

Edit: Downloaded the manual - it needs to be a 4-pin CPU fan connected to the 4-pin CPU_FAN header. In the BIOS (not AI Suite) under the Monitor tab, CPU Q-Fan Control should be Enabled with CPU Fan Profile set to Standard. You could try Silent there and use OCCT to put a load on the CPU and watch your temps. If it's still running 100% after all that, the fan is hosed, the BIOS needs updated, or the header is hosed.

Edit 2: You could also try CPU_OPT header and see if you can control it from there.

One of the best coolers as far as performance and sound is the Scythe Ninja 3. It performs better than almost any other cooler with low RPM fans. It was designed to cool really well with very little air flow. So get that then get you a 1900 RPM slip stream fan and you'll be set. I own the Scythe Ninja 3 and I'm overclocked to 4.7Ghz and coule go to 4.8Ghz. So I can vouche for it. And I have the 1900RPM fan too and although you can hear it when it's at full speed during a burn in test, I can't hear it at all during normal use. And that's what your looking for.

Some of the good reviewers that reviews this heat sink say it's really good also. All the tests show it performs better than any other fan at lower RPM's. And it performs well at high RPM's too. So no worries all the way around. And it looks cool.

After examining in the BIOS and the manual, seems like J_E_D_70 was right. I need a 4 pin connector to be able to control the speed. Another thing, I've realized the fans on the heat sink are only 3 pin connector. I don't know if I need a 4 pin to control the speed (noob alert), but maybe that's the problem.

I've changed the settings in BIOS by putting the CPU Q-fan enable. Still doesn't work, but I'll make so tests to see if it works. If it doesn't, I'll try to plug it in the OPT_FAN.

I tried to control it from the BIOS and it still doesn't work. If I plug the CPU heatsink in the CPU_OPT, it reads CPU Error at startup. At this point, I think the CPU cooler is outdated for the mobo so I need a new one with 4 pin connectors. Am I in the right path or I forgot other steps?

p.s: thanks a lot guys for your replies
