I have a Windows 98 CD that I am trying to install from. When I tell my computer to boot from the disk, it boots normally. When I tell the CD to install, it says I need to run in MS-DOS mode (i.e. when I boot?). How can I get it to install? (I am also trying to install it to and external drive; is there a way to tell the setup to do that?)

More about : install disk

I'm using it for old software that won't work very well with XP. I asked how to install it, not your opinion on if I should.

He may have given an unwanted opinion but he DID answer your question. You CANNOT install windows on an external drive. It WILL NOT work.
