Is it possible to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows XP using somebody else's Windows 7 Acronis backup?

Basically, my grandpa has recently installed Windows 7 and I am still on XP. He recently decided he wants to go back to XP, so has done that. He has still got a full Acronis backup of his Windows 7 installation though.

What I want to know is whether I can use that backup to restore his copy of 7, as nobody is using it and there's absolutely no point buying another copy when there's one going spare. I need to bear in mind though whether the file formats are different or whether this will balls everything up completely as I am on XP.

My system specs are :

Intel i5 2500K
ASUS P8Z68-V/Gen3
1TB Seagate Barracuda
8GB Corsair Vengeance

Thank you in advance.

As Brett928S2 said number one it is illegal as the key was activated on a different PC so it can only be used on that PC and it does not matter if he is not using it any longer. Unless you both had the same hardware it would not work anyway as the backup would have been for a completely different set of hardware. And lastly it is illegal because it would be no different than trying to use the same product key on two computers.
