I'm going to attempt to build a PC for a preferred cost of $400-500. This would include The OS, monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard. This will be my first build.

Usage: programming and gaming.
OS: Windows
Location: USA
Parts: I would like to build the most powerful PC I can for my budget.

thanks in advance.

Still need keyboard/mouse/speakers. You can get it all for under 500, but that's really stretching it thin. For that price you are prolly better off looking at a prebuilt pc from Bestbuy/Walmart or somewhere like that. Something on clearance maybe.

This build seems pretty good for it's low price : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh455l3348s

It doesn't include Windows so the computer itself would be 400$ and this is a very good price for such computer. If you want a powerful pc with keyboard mouse and monitor, you will need at least 600$ if not more.

That also doesn't include a monitor.

Thanks everyone. I'm asking my parents for the money as I need a computer to do my programming, as our family's computer is almost 10 years old. I picked 400-500 as a base price. I'm not sure exactly how much I will have for my budget yet. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far.
