Sam, it's not always about the money, sometimes it's about the accessibility. Linux is very accessible as it only requires one person with the ability to download and share.
So as not to be accused of MS bashing, I was reading that "The Game of Thrones" was the most pirated torrent content of last year. HBO realized that it was because of their slow global distribution and has taken steps to correct that rather than just go after the torrenters. A smart move that will make them a lot of money and fans. Probably breaking the hearts of some lawyers though. They adapt to the needs/desires of their customers.
The more restrictive a software becomes the more attractive the alternative no matter how good it may be.
FYI gPHPedit is pretty sweet, been using it for sometime now, just wish it had built in SSH abilities.
Don't worry - that last sentence wasn't directed at you
I know your internet connection causes a lot of issues for you with Windows. If you look at the posts being replied to, you'll see the money reference. It's the first thing to be criticised (almost always is) and just feels like a very weak argument.
In such an important piece of software as an operating system, a sub-100 price-tag can't be one of the biggest considerations unless you're seriously broke (and if so, how are you affording to buy a new computer in the first place?).
Thanks for the heads up on gPHPedit. I used to use Dreamweaver but it's heavy and bloated and the integrated FTP was a nightmare for reliability. Only thing I slightly miss about it is code completion, but Notepad++ works pretty nicely for me
Does gPHPedit do code completion?
