Solution
Ugh, not for years. Gaming on linux is just a tiny little niche, and not very good at all, at least not yet. If you think using Windows 7 is hard, then Linux isn't for you.

Also, how can you even hate Windows 7, it's a fantastic operating system.

Truthfully. This will never completely happen. If you can stick with Steam and such then you can game in Linux for other games though some will never support Linux or it may take years. We just have to wait and see and pray.

well frist you have to pay for the OS everytime you build a new pc lol plus linux is just easier for me im into programing you know php and stuff lol win7 just to many virus so that means you have to by spyware and stuff or use filehippo for free stuff mainly trails tho i only use win7 for gaming lol and its just a disk install no coa you know the whole use a spare 500gb hdd and just renstall every 190 days haha thats what i do back up all ur stuff on a 64gb flash drive and reinstall :)

Windows 8 is fantastic, it just needs start8 or classic shell to remove metro and bring back the start menu, 8 is better than 7 realistically.

Microsoft being crooks? I respectfully disagree to a point. Apple are real "krooks."

Linux is not consumer friendly enough, so until it does, don't expect much.

Microsoft is a company selling a product, there is nothing wrong with selling an operating system that supports practically every type of PC out there, and all that type of stuff.

Virus? If your getting malware, it's the users fault most of the time. I have not had an infection since XP or any form of other malware affect me. If I can keep my computers malware free, anyone else can.

I don't know what the rest of your message is, I can't decipher it.

Windows is fine unless you live in the 3rd world. Most are not connected at all to the internet so keeping your anti-virus updated is difficult to say the least leaving you exposed to viruses via flash disks. I spend at least 10 hours a week recovering infected systems. We also pay more often by the MB so don't leave auto-update on or you'll pay big for it. Won't even go into the how to register windows is damn near impossible either. When you need the new win8 pilot for your HP printer do you go to Microsoft? Windows does not support any hardware other than their own it's the hardware that supports Microsoft. As more people use Linux more hardware will be supported as well, look at HP, in general installing an HP printer in Linux means plugging it in, couldn't be easier. There is a market for Windows but there is also a market for Linux.

Haha couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a PHP dev and do all my work on Windows (Vista - not my choice but has worked flawlessly for me) with Filezilla and Notepad++. No malware issues whatsoever and the same goes for my Windows 7 machine at home.

Cost me 70 for an OEM Home Premium and it's lasted me three years already. Since I'm not upgrading to 8, it will last me probably several more years to come. So for easily the most important piece of software on the system, I'd say that's pretty exceptional value. The cost argument is an incredibly weak one unless you're living on the poverty line.

The virus argument is a strong one when getting maybe a typical elderly person set up with a computer or somebody with a serious lack of common sense.

Some people just feel everything should be given away for free and if a fee is a charged that it's a personal attack against them.

Sam, it's not always about the money, sometimes it's about the accessibility. Linux is very accessible as it only requires one person with the ability to download and share.

So as not to be accused of MS bashing, I was reading that "The Game of Thrones" was the most pirated torrent content of last year. HBO realized that it was because of their slow global distribution and has taken steps to correct that rather than just go after the torrenters. A smart move that will make them a lot of money and fans. Probably breaking the hearts of some lawyers though. They adapt to the needs/desires of their customers.

The more restrictive a software becomes the more attractive the alternative no matter how good it may be.

FYI gPHPedit is pretty sweet, been using it for sometime now, just wish it had built in SSH abilities.

Don't worry - that last sentence wasn't directed at you :) I know your internet connection causes a lot of issues for you with Windows. If you look at the posts being replied to, you'll see the money reference. It's the first thing to be criticised (almost always is) and just feels like a very weak argument.

In such an important piece of software as an operating system, a sub-100 price-tag can't be one of the biggest considerations unless you're seriously broke (and if so, how are you affording to buy a new computer in the first place?).

Thanks for the heads up on gPHPedit. I used to use Dreamweaver but it's heavy and bloated and the integrated FTP was a nightmare for reliability. Only thing I slightly miss about it is code completion, but Notepad++ works pretty nicely for me :) Does gPHPedit do code completion?

It even makes it pretty for you, indents, color coding, the works. Just missing an ssh connector. When working on my machine no problem but if I'm modifying a little something on the server then I have to use something else. Filezilla though for the big transfers of an entire project.

i could always get a fake key lol but thats not the true way to go im only really cheating myself there no updates from windows lol that would sux

Yeah I wouldn't ever advise using a pirated version. Not really worth it for the money saved! I used to, and had no problems with it, but decided to go legit from 7 onwards. No regrets at all :) If Microsoft was charging hundreds (or even a thousand or more) for their software like some companies do *cough*Adobe*cough* then I'd have to give the cost some real consideration. But for what they're asking for an OEM DVD, it just seems like a pretty minor cost to own a legit copy.
