I have a pretty slow internet connection and I'm trying to download files from Good old Games overnight. No matter what I set the options to (NEVER turn off when plugged in, etc) my computer will always be off in the morning. I just went to work for 5 hours and got home and saw the same thing. So, at some point within 5 hours of leaving the computer alone, it will turn off even though I have set the options to never turn off.

Is this a common problem? Is there a patch for it? Any fixes I can be aware of?

When you go to Power Options then Change Plan Setting what does it say for "Turn off the display" and "Put the computer to sleep"?

For your settings I would start with the High Performance Power Plan then set the "Turn off the display" and "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never"

You also didn't mention if this is a desktop or laptop as laptops have battery configuration as well as plugged in.

And finally, is you home power stable? If you are using a desktop and the power goes out for even a second will leave the computer in the off position unless you change that in the BIOS.

It's a laptop but stays plugged in 24/7. The power doesn't go out because all my other electronics are working fine and have power in the morning. I already turned the settings to high power and put the options for sleep to "never" and it still turns off regardless.

Do you close the lid? You may need to change the settings for what happens when you close the lid. The default is to put the computer to sleep which then turns off the computer later. Change this to "Do nothing" or "Take no action", the screen will still black out when the lid is closed but the computer will not go to sleep.

Make sure your system is completely patched and all your drivers are up to date as well as the BIOS.

You can also check the power settings using gpedit.msc just be careful of what changes you make. You can find the power settings under: Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - System - Power Management. The settings here should all be "Not Configured" initially but when set they override the settings made in the control panel.
