Hello there,

Router: Centurylink pk5001z

Yes, I make sure to stay up to date on firmware.

I play games on my computer and it runs perfectly fine when it is just me using the internet.

But the second someone else gets on our other computer, my ms jumps up to really high scary numbers and it won't go away until they are off.

It is usually my parents using either their computer, their tablets or phones.

They never download anything because they think anything and everything will give them a virus.
I honestly think they just have so many programs running in the background, if I tried to explain it to them, they would think I would be giving them a virus...

They have 0 knowledge in tech.

I know it is possible for me to make my PC top priority in terms of bandwidth.
I have a QoS option in my router.
But I just have no idea how to configure it..

I have no idea how they hog up SO much bandwidth, all they do is go on Facebook and watch Youtube videos.

The other computer can even hog it up when it is sleeping. I have to go turn it off so that I can get some speed.

Here are screen shots of the QoS tabs, please help!

How much UPLOAD bandwidth do you have and do you think you are exceeding that.

The QoS can only give the traffic your machine is SENDING priority over the other traffic. If you are not exceeding the upload limit then it will make no difference at all. Although the vendors seem to think you limit download by limiting upload its a bunch of bull. Common sense tell you that when you stream a video you send a small request that says send me video and then you receive it only sending small messages confirming you are still watching.

There are more advanced routers that can hard limit the incoming traffic but that also only partially works.

If you are running your game on wireless then that is likely the issue, wireless does not share...

If you are running your game on wireless then that is likely the issue, wireless does not share very well.

You would need to find a way to see how much utilization you have both incoming and outgoing to see what is going on so you can see QoS is even a valid option. All depends if your router can give you utilization graphs or if the ISP can provide them otherwise you are left guessing at what the problem might be.
